The S220 2.1 speakers from Logitech are a simple sound system that can be used indoors to enhance the volume of audio output, where it is considerably low. The price of the system is what attracts most of the potential customers as it is one of the cheapest one available offering quality service when compared to other speakers of the same price range. They are mostly preferred by student and others who do not like hearing things loud or whose requirement is exactly what it offers.

The speakers are small and hence can be placed even in a congested place comfortably. They are the best option to watch movies on a laptop as the volume is sufficiently loud and clear. They can be bought for somewhere around twenty five bucks and that is the best feature of the system. The music from CDs and other stuff from DVDs can be heard with a loud enough volume and this is what is ultimately expected of an average speaker system. The satellite speakers work fine and do the job they were made for efficiently. The sub woofer is far above expectations and the best part is that there are separate volume controls for both, the sub woofer and the satellite speakers.

The design of the speakers makes it convenient to tuck them in the space of a computer table with ease and the controls of the device can also be accesses without any difficulty. The overall sound quality is much better than most of the alternate models and it is difficult to find a player with similar performance in the same price range. The maximum volume of the system can fill a considerable large size room and this is a welcome feature when compared to the mere size and price of the unit. The bass switch is at the back of the subwoofer and usually once it is set, the user does not have to access it again. So the location of the control is justified. The speakers are made of high quality material and so are the connecting cables. There is also a wired remote control with a long cord that can be used to change the volume etc. from a distance.

A few of the users have heard a humming sound coming out of the speakers when nothing is being played and this may be mainly due to a defective product being delivered. There is also a gap that is found in the mid range frequency and that is disappointing sometimes. The subwoofer cannot be placed at a considerable distance as the cord length is limited. Thought the sound quality is pretty satisfactory, some static can be heard a few times at the highest level of volume.

All in all, the system is very basic and that is what one gets for the price it demands. This is a reliable speaker system as far as the service is concerned and it is the best for students in dorms and hostels.

Not just for computers - improves cheap TVs

Review Date: July 8, 2008

I recently got a inexpensive 19" HDTV which has decent enough video quality but it burdened with the WORST sound I've heard on a TV. Tinny sounding speakers with little volume. But there was a headphone jack on the TV. With headphones, the TV sounded excellent. My computer speakers were connected with a headphone jack... They worked just fine on the TV. I looked for powered 2.1 computer speaker systems on Amazon and was delighted to find many choices under $40. The best value for the money seemed to be this Logitech and the cheap TV now has excellent sound.

I give this a 5 star rating (instead of a 3 or a 4) because of the low price. There are better 2.1 systems but nowhere near this price.
Recording Engineer says YES

I am a recording engineer and i bought these speakers to use as reference monitors to compare my mixes on a pair of consumer speakers. They sound a whole lot better than i expected! At low volume levels, these speakers aren't far from my pair of $1000 professional studio monitors. They do lack a bit of mid to low-mid on the frequency spectrum, but that is expected with consumer speakers.
Awesome

Great sound with a nice touch of base. All the quality in a small package. The speaker wires are really not long enough for distant placement of speakers the wire doesn't spread that far apart. The sub woofer does well it packs a punch when cranked up. The piano black color adds nice touch to the speakers and woofer which is kind of heavy but slim enough to fit just about anywhere. The volume control and mic/phone jack controls are easy to use and a big plus for me. Easy gliding volume control the whole system feels solid with no visible weaknesses. Over all a good speaker system for the money.
Great Speakers!

I just got my speakers today and I'm absolutely impressed and stand in awe of the quality of sound. The output is somewhat similar to my $2500 entertainment center speakers (I'm not kidding). I'm no audio expert but I know quality when I hear it and these speakers deliver. The best part is the PRICE! You get so much for so little; it is worth the "sacrifice" of $25 or better yet the "steal" for $25. For some of us, $25 is 1/4 of the price of gas going into our SUVs.

One last thing my wife listened to the speakers and she had to agree they were the best speakers she had heard in a long time for a computer. Hey, if my wife enjoys them they got to be good because she isn't a "gadget" person like her geeky husband. She's honest with a good ear for music.

Buy them and enjoy them, I am! Music from your laptop (MacBook Pro) will never sound the same again; I promise!

Just what I was looking for

Pros-

Impressive bass that rivals much more expensive speakers

Sleek and simple design

Cons-

Tweeters are pretty crappy, don't expect much in the mids department

Overall I was very impressed with the sound quality for the price I paid, this is exactly what I was looking for - if you're not too snobby (which I suppose you aren't if you're only spending $25) you'll be very satisfied.
